CARRIETON

Amongst the gum creeks, overflowing Oladdie Hills, and the imposing Horseshoe Range, a visit to Carrieton heralds your arrival into the ‘Outback.’

EXPERIENCE A FASCINATING PAST

The enchanting town of Carrieton was named after Governor Jervois’ daughter Carrie back in 1878. Today, amongst the gum creeks, overfl owing Oladdie Hills, and the imposing Horseshoe Range, a visit to Carrieton heralds your arrival into the ‘Outback.’

The beautiful Carrieton Mural (at the public conveniences) depicts a range of European activities in the Carrieton area dating back to the 1870s, and consisting of almost 900 gloriously hand-painted clay tiles. Also, catch a glance of the remains of the large Yanyarrie Whim stone tank once a signifi cant watering hole for drovers and travelling livestock.

After staying at the Caravan Park or one of the Award-winning 4WD and Camping station stays, take the Johnburgh Loop Tour. This is a scenic loop drive circling the Oladdie Hills with many photo opportunities of gum creeks, slate outcrops, ruins and old buildings in the deserted towns of Johnburgh and Belton, a variety of vegetation, pine tree stands, mallee scrub and bluebush.

A highlight of the Australian rodeo scene, the Carrieton Rodeo is a ‘must-do,’ it is an exciting time of year, where the small town pulls together to create something truly spectacular. Have a picture taken with ‘Cloudbuster’, the legendary buckjumping horse at the southern entrance to Carrieton.
